My mixed breed Beagle/Terrier weighs 30 pounds. Her back measured 19 inches so I bought the 20 inch coat. It was way too big. I thought it would work anyway by cinching up the belt, but I let her run free for about 5 minutes on my 9 acres and she got so tangled up in it that I had to literally cut the coat off her back.So then I bought the 18 inch version, which fits much better. But the coat has several flaws, all mentioned by previous reviewers. The belt buckle is sewn on upside down and it hard to buckle. I have to twist the belt to make the buckle right side up, which buckles easier but is still very stiff, a cheap plastic buckle. The belt does not stay tight--it loosens and that makes the underbelly part sag. The rear straps are useless--I cut them off. Snow gets under the chest/belly part and the fleece gets wet.On the plus side, my dog likes this coat and prances around in it. Except for the buckle, it goes on quickly. It keeps her warm while going outdoors to potty. It will get us through this terrible cold spell currently on-going in the Midwest.I don't see how it would work even for walks, due to the strap loosening. I don't think it's safe for letting the dog run free--too big of a chance of getting tangled up on something.I will use this for the current cold spell, but keep looking for a better overall coat. I think this coat is way overpriced. An $80 coat should be perfect, not have all these issues.1/6/18 updateI have changed my review from 2 stars up to 4 stars. This coat did a great job of getting my dog through a stretch of bitter cold weather. At the worst it was -18 degrees out with -35 wind chill when she went out in the morning. I particularly like the way the coat covers her neck and also her chest area. She was just going in and out for potty breaks, not spending any extra time outside, but still, we got through this period without her catching cold. When she came in, she wasn't shivering very much. Without a coat, she would normally be shivering a lot at much warmer temps than this.So I felt I had to upgrade my rating. The buckle is a real pain in the neck, hard to undo, especially for older hands. And the strap does not stay pulled tight. But the insulation and the overall coverage of the coat is excellent.12/16/20 updateWell, now my review is up to 5 stars. This coat has gotten my dog through several winters. I am so grateful to have a coat she is happy to wear and that keeps her warm. All the little details that bothered me at first don't even matter now. What matters is this coat keeps her warm and dry. The coat has held up so well, it still looks new. Because she is 13 years old now, her hair is thinner and she needs more help. So I think I'll get her the Hurtta extreme warmer coat as well, which appears to have a liner to reflect body heat. But this summit parka is still great for most days. Thank you, Hurtta, for making a great coat and helping my dog. She's a rescue from Alabama. Her coat is very short. It doesn't take much to get her shivering. Decided to get her a new winter jacket. Went with this one because it has no Velcro. It's a onesie where her head goes into the opening with an extended collar that comes up to the back of her ears. Then you bring the flap down her chest and under her belly where a reflective belt comes around the top and snaps into a plastic buckle on the other side. Not sure if that would be problematic for male dogs. There are elastic straps sewn into the sections that her rear legs go through. Initially I thought they might be too loose but there are three chords with pull clamps (collar, withers, tail) to individualize the fit. Before I tightened the cords, I was having second thoughts... It looked like she was swimming in it. I was worried about the back end getting in the way when she does her business. First, with the coat fully on and her legs through the rear straps, I tightened the cord at the withers while pulling the back of the coat rearward. That snugged the coat across her chest. Next I pulled the cord snug at the base of her tail and this more clearly delineated the rear leg sections. Lastly, I pulled the collar as far up her neck as it would go and tightened that cord--it didn't make a tight fit at her neck.I took her for a walk at dusk and the reflective decals lit up from my flashlight. Some reviews mention the decals may come off over time, but more permanent reflectors can be sewn on. Good news, the back end of the jacket stays out of the way when nature calls! We've been out in rain and she stays dry except for her head. It's advertised as waterproof but I'd say it is "quite water resistant," I don't think it could withstand a drenching rain as well as my Barbour.I am definitely impressed and Koko seems to enjoy running around in it. I put it on her when the temperature is under 40 F and so far we've been out in the lower 20s without adverse effect. As winter proceeds, I'll monitor her; if this doesn't keep her warm at lower temps, I'll look into getting her a Hurtta Extreme Warmer. So overall, two paws up!Comparing this company to cowboys would be a gross disservice. To cowboys that is. I would *strongly advise* steering clear of this mob. Or -if you do insist on purchase— please ensure you keep a forensic record of all dealings with them. Including photographs if appropriate. My circumstances are these. I placed an order for a Hurrta Summit parka with them on 30/10/18. Not the cheapest product but it came highly recommended by a friend. The parka arrived a few days later. I tried it on my dog and discovered it was too large. Prior to packaging it up, I noticed a few dog hairs had stuck to the interior fleece. (Given the natural adherent nature of this material, it’s well-nigh impossible for them not to.) I took a velcro brush to the lining, removed everything I could see and returned the item by way of exchange request. Didn’t think to much about it. Today I had a phone call from them saying the parka was ‘fur laden’, ‘dog haired’ and ‘dirty’. The gentleman used all 3 words interchangeably. When challenged on this, he stated there were approximately ’20 hairs’ of the ‘Golden Lab’ variety. My dog is a cropped and short-haired Border Terrier. Anyway, the upshot was this - they were retaining the product and I was due only a partial refund. A cleaning charge of 20% was necessary. Apparently. Ever seen that Clint Eastwood film ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’? A line in it came thundering back: ‘Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining’. I feel fleeced by this company (no pun intended) and don’t want you to have the the same experience. I look forward to seeing the photographic evidence I’ve asked for. I’ve had dogs all my life and bought numerous items on and offline for them. Never had this experience. Not only would I never use the company again but, if they’re genuine agents of Hurrta, I’ll look elsewhere for a dog coat. Plus 7k likes? Don’t know what’s more incredible. That that’s true. Or the length of this review. It's the first proper one I've been compelled to do.Really good coat. We originally bought a Barbour wax coat for our cocker spaniel but she hated it. I think it was the way the material sat as it didn’t wrap around her very nicely. This coat is much better. The fleece lining is great and it’s very easy to put on.We have to re-order a bigger size. I’d done all of the measurements but none of them suited her exactly enough. I went for the 35 but changed it for 2 up to the 45.Biggest recommendation is to go bigger than you think and mainly concentrate on the measurement from neck to tail as it’s most important the jacket covers the whole of the back. It’s much easier to get on as it’s bigger everywhere else and you then tighten it on with the toggles and the adjustable strap. Perfect!I started to get poorly before Christmas so my mummy bought me one of these coats so that I could stay warm when we went out for walkies. I don't have to go to the vets so much now and I'm feeling a lot better. The coat keeps my fur dry and I don't get so dirty because the chest panel stops any splashes when I jump in the puddles. Mummy says it's really easy to wipe clean too - she hasn't had to put it in the washing machine yet. I got a new baby sister a few weeks ago and mummy bought her a matching coat so that we would look the same. Bessie's coat was quite big and mummy adjusted it so that it would fit her better and now that she is growing mummy can adapt it to fit her without having to buy a new coat each time she gets bigger. People smile at us when we go out on our walks and say 'what lovely coats'. Eddy the Collie.Great coat that keeps my dog warm and dry. The coat has both a strap that goes round the waist and also elasticated loops at the back that for the back legs keeping it firmly in place even when my dog has been charging about in the woods. Quality of the materials and stitching seems great so I expect it to last a while. Its not the cheapest but certainly the best I've tried.love this i bought for my staffie, she gets really cold in the winter and shivers, this coat is brilliant, warm fleece lining and waterproof, keeps her neck warm and has two comfortable straps at he back that go under the legs so coat stays put when she is running . best og coat i have ever bought and im a dog owner of 25 years , yes slightly expensive but you get what you pay for
